More Old Skool Hip Hop and Funk rarities on one album, filling up those tracks that you
just can't find anymore or have to pay loads for. Selected by Junk from the Second To None
B-Boy Crew, these are tracks that have been big on the breaking scene past and present.
This one comes
courtesy Dr.Skunkenstein. This was a track I had on a Mike Allen
tape back in 1985, and had wanted ever since but did not know
what it was called or who it was by, I always thought it was
by T La Rock because it quotes D.J. Louie Lou. I got some e
mails suggesting I put 'Don't Fess' on B-Boy Anthems but I did'nt
know what this tune was until I got a CD through the post and
there it was ,the tune I was after for ages. This sums up all
that is wicked about '85 Hip Hop/Electro. Fast and funky
with a b-boy break, this was also done by The Commordores but
this version is my favorite , always a good breaking track with
that un- mistakable horn tune. This one comes
courtesy of Prone ,ruff and funky with a long bongo break, great
for double deck action. The break has been in loads of Hip Hop
but is still hard to get hold of. What more can
I say one of the best and most sampled breaks ever, the drum
break sounds good at almost any pitch and is a producer's dream
, it's easy to loop and will make any track sound better. This
has been sampled in every genre of modern music from Drum And
Bass, Hardcore ,Hip Hop ,etc right the way to advert jingles,
if the band got £1 for every record with this loop in it they
would be rather well off. This track appeared on the Ultimate
Breaks And Beats but they slowed down the break, I've kept it
at it's natural speed and the rest of the tune is really funky
and wicked for breaking. This one I looped
up just for all you turntablists out there. The break has been
slowed down a bit and looped over a few times with a bit of
the music in it as well. Comes with a nice wide groove for easy
needle location. 1)
'New York Breakdown' - CSL And The Boys Next Door This one comes
courtesy of Sakura, another elusive track from the same Mike
Allen tape , a rap all about New York , wicked old skool style
with 808 beats and warm synth bassline. A style of Hip Hop unique
to the mid eighties. Was on Electro
One ,that was the first I heard of it , the big synth intro
always blew me away, fast electro style with classy old skool
rap and analogue bassline. This got played at Battle Of The
Year 1996 about 20 times and sounded wicked on every play. '88 Funky Hip
Hop ,of U.K. origin I believe .Came out originally on Tim Westwood's
Justice label but now is very rare . This track is very motivating
, utilising the Give It Up And Turn It Loose break by James
Brown and snippets of the horn from It's Just Begun with some
wicked scratching by a mystery D.J. in-between a fast U.S. style
rap. These are put
on there for my own use really, but all you scratch D.J. s might
find these useful for a bit of practise , these are the start
bass drums or stabs from all the breaks that I'm using on future
tracks ,the reason they're on here is so that I can scratch
them and sample them into tracks I'm making, often it's not
possible to scratch the originals as there is not a clean start
to the stab/bass drum. click tracks to download
